What does an elementary school counselor DO? We wear many HATS as School Counselors. The Passaic School District School Counseling Department follows the American School Counseling Association's Model for a comprehensive school counseling program. This program focuses on college and career readiness as well as social and emotional health. Our program is organized using four components: Curriculum Development, Responsive Services, Individual Planning, and System Support.
Lessons provided to all students may include: Bully Awareness & Prevention, Social Skills, Coping Skills, Self-Esteem, Drug Resistance Awareness, Safety with Strangers, Introduction to College, Introduction to Careers, Character Building, Life Skill Lessons, Diversity Appreciation/Inclusion & Communication Skills.

Responsive Services may include: Small Group Counseling, Short Term Individual Counseling, Student/Parent/Staff Crisis, Staff/Parent Consultation, Behavioral Planning, Consultation/Collaboration with Community Agencies, Mandated Reporting, & Crisis Intervention.
